Bloomfield is about 5 miles north of downtown Newark. The drive takes 10 to 15 minutes. NJ Transit bus routes connect the two towns. The courthouse is near Broad Street Station and Newark Penn Station.

The municipal court phone is 973-680-4078. Sessions are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 AM and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM. The court handles DWI, disorderly conduct, simple assault, and traffic cases. More serious offenses are sent to the Essex County Superior Court. Family cases always go to the county level.
